About the Program
Special needs planning has evolved dramatically over the last three decades, and today's lawyers, accountants, financial planners and trust officers need more than a passing familiarity with special needs trusts, public benefits, and the increasingly important role of ABLE accounts. Presenters will examine both planning and administration, with an emphasis on avoiding common pitfalls, recognizing opportunities, and understanding why the "obvious" solution is sometimes the wrong one. Along the way, we'll try to prove that discussions of SSI and Medicaid can occasionally be both enlightening and almost entertaining.
About Robert Fleming
Robert is a Fellow of both the American College of Trust and Estate Counsel and the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys. He has been certified as a Specialist in Estate and Trust Law by the State Bar of Arizona‘s Board of Legal Specialization, and he is also a Certified Elder Law Attorney by the National Elder Law Foundation. Robert has a long history of involvement in local, state and national organizations. He is most proud of his instrumental involvement in the Special Needs Alliance, the premier national organization for lawyers dealing with special needs trusts and planning.
In October, Robert will have reached 50 years as a practicing attorney. He will retire from that practice shortly thereafter. He dislikes the sobriquet “recovering attorney” because, in his view, there is nothing to “recover” from. Practicing law and dealing with clients has been his career and his joy for five decades, and he thinks maybe it’s time to have someone else take over.
Robert has two adult children, three (soon to be four) young grandchildren and a wife of over fifty years. He is devoted to all of them. He is also very fond of Rosalind Franklin (his corgi companion), and his homebound cats Muninn and Bella. He just likes people, their pets and their stories.
About Jordan Young
Jordan is an Arizona native and loves her desert roots. Jordan earned her law degree from the University of Arizona, James E. Rogers College of Law. She earned her bachelor’s degree in Marketing and Masters of Education from Arizona State University. She taught high school math for three years prior to attending law school.
Through the university, Jordan participated in the Education Advocacy Clinic and helped organize the Name Change Clinic. She started as a law clerk at Fleming & Curti, PLC while attending law school and enjoyed the work so much she has stuck around ever since.
Jordan is passionate about helping her clients develop plans that work for them. She is dedicated to finding workable solutions to clients problems.
In her free time she likes to hang out with her two cats, Gnocchi and Princess Pumpkin Spice, and her partner, Daniel. She also likes to craft, read, and play board games.
